The new LS3 neo winglets offer a modern and effective way to take the performance and flight characteristics of LS3 and LS3-a gliders to a new level. They are based on the “neo principle” developed by DG Aviation, which is based on the latest aerodynamic findings and is already being used successfully in many DG and LS models. By optimizing the outer wing geometry, the neo winglets noticeably reduce induced drag while improving handling, especially in thermals and during slow flight. Pilots report more direct, stable control and overall smoother flight behavior near stall speed. For the LS3 series, a new separation point was introduced about 200 millimeters in front of the wing tip, enabling a particularly harmonious and aerodynamically optimal transition to the winglet. This results in advantages in both climbing and turning flight, as well as in demanding thermal conditions.

The technical implementation of the retrofit is based on Technical Notice TN3056. It describes the most important adjustments required for the installation of the neo winglets. These include the integration of the new wing separation, the conversion of the water ballast system, the updating of various manual pages, the adjustment of airspeed indicator markings and a new weighing of the entire aircraft.

To initiate the retrofit or clarify any questions, we recommend to use the contact form on the DG Aviation website. There you can submit your request quickly and easily.

After successful retrofitting, LS3 pilots will immediately benefit from noticeably improved thermal flight, smoother behavior in slow flight, greater directional stability and more modern handling overall. This makes the neo winglets a valuable investment for anyone who wants to enhance the performance, safety and flight feeling of their LS3 in the long term.
