The Akaflieg Karlsruhe’s project AK-X which is supported by DG Flugzeugbau and DG Composites was now first introduced to a broad audience at the Aero 2017 in Friedrichshafen. Visitors were invited to marvel at the fuselage’s mockup and the unique glider’s failure-test wing on display. Last year DG had milled all full-size molds needed to fabricate the “fuselage” and the wings. In addition to that we took care of most of the built-in parts. Following the Akaflieg Braunschweig’s SB13, which had been designed in the late 1980s, the AK-X is the next significant essay to calculate and construct a flying wing sailplane. We are proud to be sponsoring this ambitious project and curious about the course of a new venture.
