In spring 2018 Richard Paul decided to send his new DG-1001M to Africa for the 2018/2019 season. His aim was to station the glider in Bitterwasser/Namibia and offer it for rent. Holger Back and his wife Ilka got the chance to book a slot and were able to enjoy the beauty of gliding in Namibia with the DG-1001M in January 2019.

Performing numerous flights above Kalahari desert they impressively showed the DG’s potential. Two flights of more than 1000km with average speeds of 140 km/h showed same performace as competitive flapped wing gliders.

In OLC’s Speed-Ranking Ilka and Holger were even able to deliver average speeds up to 160km/h which always guaranteed a top ranking that day.
