Bruchsal, July 6, 2021 – DG Flugzeugbau GmbH is reorganizing its business units, turning its attention to the future of mobility and further specializing in the sector of gliding. Holger Back, CEO, and Sebastian Tschorn, Production Manager, of DG Flugzeugbau GmbH will remain part of the management team at DG Flugzeugbau GmbH and DG Aviation GmbH, and will continue to run the business together with Volocopter. Volocopter thus takes over the certification as a Production Organisation. Karl-Friedrich Weber, the previous owner of DG Flugzeugbau, is selling his shares, heralding a generational change to make  the brand future proof.

The new owner of DG Flugzeugbau GmbH will be Volocopter GmbH, which thus gains access to DG’s certification as a Production Organisation, which is essential to continue  Volocopter’s production processes. This is an important milestone for the company on its way to bring Urban Air Mobility to the cities around the world.

DG Flugzeugbau GmbH, with its Production Organisation Approval, will remain  an independent company and will continue to manufacture DG’s gliders and motor gliders. Holger Back stays with the company as a member of the management team.

DG Aviation GmbH, under the management of Holger Back and Sebastian Tschorn, will serve as a Maintenance and Design Organisation, primarily for sailplanes and powered sailplanes as well as for ELA-1 aircraft.

DG Aviation GmbH will focus on the following business areas:

– Sales and delivery of DG and LS aircraft.

– Service and maintenance for sailplanes, powered sailplanes as well as ELA-1 aircraft of all brands

– Support for all DG and LS aircraft

– Development and special projects in the field of aviation

For the existing customers of DG-Flugzeugbau, there will be no changes as a result of the new acquisition and division. All contact persons and production staff will remain the same.

“These changes have no effect on orders and support contracts. DG Aviation is taking these over unchanged and will continue to specialize in the areas of development as well as service and maintenance. We want to continue to expand our traditional business and provide the best possible aviation solution for our customers,” said Sebastian Tschorn.

The changes will take effect during late summer once all approvals have been received from the LBA and EASA.

The new acquisition is a win-win situation for both DG and Volocopter. Volocopter can go ahead with the construction of the VoloCity in parallel with the production of gliders and motor-gliders. Both companies will benefit equally from planned investments.

Holger Back: “DG Flugzeugbau has always stood for innovation and progress. Especially the last ten years have been characterized by  rapid development in the cooperation with Volocopter. We believe in the future of these new aircraft and are excited to now have play a solid part in this revolution with our manufacturing facility while continuing our existing business.”
